THE NEED
In today’s global environment, situational awareness and actionable intelligence are critical to air and ground superiority. Manned and Unmanned Aerial Systems play a pivotal role in capturing this vital information with ‘eyes in the sky.’ The challenge is that these systems are producing volumes of data difficult to view with human eyes within a reasonable amount of time. Many times salient features and events go unnoticed or undocumented, and critical intelligence information is lost.
ENHANCE
It is no longer good enough to simply crop and forward imagery to the next user. Value must be added at every step in the chain. 2d3 provides you with revolutionary techniques to do just that - make your imagery better. Stabilization, spectrum optimization and super-resolution allow you to clean up even the worst images for wider consumption. Clips that may have been considered useless before, can now produce meaningful information and allow for more rapid decisions.

EXPLOIT
Imagery is not just for viewing. Information is contained in each image and each frame of video that can be used to mathematically produce video or metadata output. New data can be generated from nothing more than the source imagery.
The 'soda-straw' effect makes maintaining situational awareness difficult and many times a user is unable to identify an event simply because he was not looking at that part of the screen. 2d3 Sensing's mosaicking capability, when executed through TacitView, allows a user to create still images for either a collection of still images, or a video sequence. Now a large image of the entire context can be created and viewed as a whole. Add position and pointing metadata, and the image can be geo-located and exported to a variety of GIS applications.
Ever tried to see an ant on the ground when you are moving in a car? That is what it is like to look through an airborne EO or IR imager and try to pick out the bad guys on the ground. 2d3 Sensing has implemented moving target indication into TacitView to allow operators of even the most basic aerial imaging systems to pick out the motion from the video sequence. MTI will detect and track moving targets in the scene as long as they are in the field of view.

EXPORT
None of these tools are worth much if you cannot get the results to the people that need them. TacitView allows you to quickly create intelligence product in the formats most commonly used with the click of a mouse. Use our interface to arrange and build your intelligence product, then choose the output format and you are done.
TacitView is designed for interoperability with a wide array of existing systems and is capable of accepting still and motion imagery. TacitView is also capable of receiving metadata in many formats or even extracting metadata from burned-in overlays. TacitView supports live connections to imagery sources, or can import archive video and still imagery from existing database and video management systems.

MANAGE
TacitView connects to a video database management system, such as 2d3 Sensing's Catalina, and gives the user an integrated environment.
Find the imagery you need with intuitive search tools and unique presentation of query results, including map thumbnails, and 'age of imagery' indications.
Connect multiple TacitView stations together to build a imagery dissemination system that allows others on your network to share the same source imagery or view the imagery created by a particular analyst.

Lake Forest, CA, June 3, 2008 – 2d3, Inc. (www.2d3.com), a leading provider of vision science solutions for industrial, defense, and entertainment applications, announces the availability of TacitView–a software suite leveraging years of vision science experience and intellectual property to create Imagery Intelligence (IMINT) from aerial motion imagery.
“Hours of motion imagery is not an intelligence product,” said Jon Damush, president of 2d3, Inc, a subsidiary of OMG plc. “In today’s global environment, situational awareness and actionable intelligence are critical to air and ground superiority. Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) play a pivotal role in capturing this vital information with ‘eyes in the sky.’ The challenge is that these systems are producing volumes of data difficult to view with human eyes within a reasonable amount of time. Many times salient features and events go unnoticed or undocumented, and critical intelligence information is lost.”
2d3 approaches this challenge from a vision science perspective in two ways:
- by enhancing motion imagery using techniques such as real-time stabilization, spectrum optimization, and superior resolution to improve the baseline quality of the imagery for real-time consumption, and
- exploiting the imagery to extract new pieces of information such as the 3D structure of the underlying terrain, or providing moving target indication over time with geo-locations on ortho-rectified mosaics. 2d3 uses computer vision to enhance what the human can do, not replace.
Jon Damush, President for 2d3 Inc. says: ”TacitView represents 2d3’s first product specifically designed to convert motion imagery into actionable intelligence. We decided to enter this market 3 years ago on the principle of bringing vision science out of academia and research and into application and practice. We have spent a great deal of time asking questions of users and listening to requests for tools that help them do their jobs better when it comes to sorting through and making sense of mountains of aerial imagery. TacitView is just our first step toward helping users shrink the time from acquisition to decision.

About TacitView
TacitView is designed for interoperability with a wide array of existing systems and is capable of accepting analog, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, MOV, MJPEG, JPEG, and many other formats of imagery. TacitView is also capable of receiving metadata in KLV, EXIF, NMEA, and other formats or even extracting metadata from burnt-in overlays. TacitView supports live connections to imagery sources, or can import archive video and still imagery from existing database and video management systems. TacitView contains its own video database management system which acts as the glue for the image and video processing capabilities, and gives the user an integrated environment. The database can be searched with standard SQL commands and parameters, or can be searched using 2d3’s new map-based query system.
About 2d3
2d3 develops and delivers technology built on unrivalled vision science expertise. Information is extracted using nothing more than images alone. It is created, recreated, manipulated, combined, and enhanced to bridge the gap between the second and third dimensions, between the virtual and the real. In 2005, 2d3 began to apply this technology to defense applications developing a specific expertise in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations, especially those from airborne platforms, such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
Since 1999, 2d3 has supplied a range of computer vision products mainly to the film and television production industries. The company's primary product, boujou, the world's leading automatic camera tracker, is now used by most film and video post-production companies to generate visual effects requiring accurate registration of real and virtual images.
2d3 is a wholly-owned subsidiary of OMG plc, a company with a 24-year history of developing, manufacturing, and marketing products and services for 3-dimensional tracking in medical, entertainment, industrial, government, and defense markets.
